Introduction
Momexx Mould Making Experts is well experienced in developing and producing multi component moulds. This is also called 2K technology. The appliances of 2K technology are very extensive, from seals to grip surfaces, but also appliances that make separate assembly of parts unnecessary. This technique makes the processing of multiple synthetics and colors possible, which may lead to better technical solutions and a more visual attractive product.
Problemstatement - Screwcap
A certain customer produces screw caps. A screw cap consists of two components and was previously held together by a separate O-ring, which was by hand assembled after the production . However, due to transport and automatic assembly a lot screw-caps were found without an O-ring or a loose O-ring. The O-ring has a sealing function and therefore this was quit a problem for the producer of screw caps.
The customer approached Momexx to develop and construct a four-fold mould with 2K technology. Multi component moulds solved this problem.
Problemstatement - Cap
Another customer had production plans for a rather unique product, which consists of a cap with a closing slide constructed in the cap itself. The closing slide is co-sprayed into the cap and that means that the product encompasses three parts and two materials. The producer approached Momexx with this challenge and the result is a series of multi component moulds that ensures the production of the cap without the necessity of separate assembly of the slide.
Moulds and craftmanship
These multi component moulds, that are constructed for this specific manner of synthetic processing, often need special technical solutions. Which technique is used to bind the different components depends on the product and the requirements. Though, the most used techniques are rotation and transfer techniques. These techniques are optimal because two or multiple processes can proceed simultaneously. Other techniques like the appliance of moving cores or mould parts are also used, but are constrained by longer cycle times.
The mould for the production of the special cap is constructed as a rotation mould with hydraulic moving cores. To achieve shorter cycle times, Momexx used vaccum welded mouldcores and parts from the Moldmax.
